I currently have a work friend who just purchased a glorious 70 inch 4k TV. Now he wants to game on it. He knows he wont get 60fps on most titles but is more looking for 30-50fps range, hes a former console player. So with that said PC Size will have to be mini so it can fit into his entertainment system. After paying nearly 2k on the TV he wants to try and get the PC in the 1k range only. Max we can go to is $1200.

So far this is what I have come up with.

Anyone have a better option than the one I just made?

I know right now you can get a 980 Ti for around $525 with rebate but thermals will be important due to build size. Also it seems AMD has a pretty solid advantage with DX12 on the horizon.

CPU: Ryzen R7 1800x (4.0GHz) | AIO: Master Liquid Pro 240 | MOBO:  MSI X370 XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM

RAM:  Gskill TridentZ RGB 3200(16gb) | GPU: Evga FTW ACX  3.0 GTX 1080(2x)

                             SSD: Samsung Evo 250gb | HSSD: Seagate 2TB | Case: InWin 303 Black | PSU: Evga 210 1000w

Firstly, if you're seriously planning to play in 4k, at least take a skylake processor, maybe an i7-6700K. Liquid cooling your cpu is also vital, as its temperature often spikes 20 some degrees when running in 4k. consider taking an aio cpu liquid cooler like the corsair h100i. I like to keep at least 16 gb of ram in my rig, but that's a more personal preference, but I'd highly suggest it. Even though the radeon does have a inbuilt liquid cooler, I'd stick with the 980 ti monster. It can run 4k without coming close to thermal throttling, provided you set up the air flow direction in your rig properly. Also a 500W power supply is nowhere near enough, so go for a 750W or smth.

i highly recommend you wait for pascal, its more efficient so it would do better in SFF builds

the fury X only have 4gb of vram so it might be limiting for 4k gaming

but here's my suggested build, though the psu might suffer slightly from the high wattage drawn by the gpu, but it should be fine

again, highly recommend waiting for pascal

Spoiler
