What's the Used CPU Market Like?

I've got a z97 Motherboard paired with a i7 4770. This is great, but I really love overclocking. I'm interested in picking up a i5 4690k to replace it. I have three questions:

- I know I'll lose out on performance when video editing, but how about gaming? If I got the CPU to 4.5 would I see any losses? (I currently have a 380 and plan on upgrading to a classy 980, so GPU bottleneck aside.) As far as I'm aware, the faster cores of the i5 should outperform the slower (clock wise) albeit higher end CPU, or is this wrong?

- How much can I sell my 4770 for?

- Do non-k CPU's have better value retention given they cannot be overvolted?

Thanks,

CobbleWalker

Specs:

z97 Fata1ity

i7 4770

Saphire r9 380 4gb

H440

Take a look at the amazon listing: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-4770-Quad-Core-Processor-BX80646I74770/dp/B00CO8TBNS

Also check your local craigslist

Nope, not in a large majority of games. Even at stock clocks.

Go 980ti, the 980 isn't very good price/performance

It goes for $306 new. So, no.

You can try listing it high as you want, but I'd expect it to go around the price that's on amazon.

What kind of drop in price would you recommend? 100? 50? I'm just looking for a suggestion, thanks for your help! I was looking at the 980 classy because of it's OC potential. I plan to eventually run it under water so I can get the highest clocks possible.

No matter how high you clock it, you still won't touch the performance of a 980ti, and considering there is only a small difference in price between a classy 980 and an SC 980ti, you should spend the extra couple bucks and get the better performance stock.

You might start at 50 under the new price ($306), and keep lowering it every few weeks (or days, depending on how quickly you want to sell it) by 50 ish. Don't lower it too much past the used price on amazon unless you REALLY need to get rid of it.

I would say go down $50

but $100 will go much quicker.

ebay.com is usually a good place to see what others are selling theirs for as well.

Sorry for the late response, I had to leave. I'll start it at $250 and see how things go, thanks for all of your input! It really helps!

Keep in mind a few things...

First, at $250, have you done the math on how much you'll actually get?  At $250, you'll get $230 after fees, and still have to ship it.  Are you ok ending up with $220?

Are you prepared for someone buying it and having a problem and sending it back?  And you may or may not get it back in the same condition?

Amazon is a great place to sell, for regular sellers, but it can be brutal for casual sellers who aren't used to all the rules.  Ebay is better for casual sellers.

Disclaimer: I sell both places, both have their use, but Amazon is a series of landmines for casual sellers who don't know all the rules.  They treat all sellers as professional retailers and expect you to act like one, even if "but I'm just selling my extra stuff" is your reason for being there.
