Using a GPU in a virtual machine

So I have been working with VMs and was wondering if it was possible to dedticate a GPU to run the VM. I have a ThinkPad with Nvidia Optimus and wanted to see if I could use the Intel 4000 for the host machine and the Nvidia NVS 5200m for the VM. Also can I make a VM widescreen?

Different scenario. I have a laptop not a $30,000 pc. Besides im trying to do it within windows 10

within windows its pretty much a "dont even bother trying"

 

same story for laptops, really. that 7 gamers system is a miracle it even worked as well as it did.

Requires a hypervisor as the primary operating system so the GPU can be passed through to Windows. That is the only way to do it and its possible with KVM or Xen but requires a fair bit of Linux knowledge to make it work well.
