Is this a Steam game? If so, right click on the game in your library > properties > verify game cache or something

If not, reinstall I guess (or install somewhere else, copy the .dll into your game folder and it might work)

If you got it from Steam, all of the steam games come with their program runtimes they need in order to function properly(i.e.:DirecX,C++ Software Redistributable, older games like Fallout 3 have Games For Windows Live etc.) and steam(uppon first launch) will check if they are installed and install them if they are not.If it didnt do that, try verifying your game's files but going into your library, right clicking the game and choosing ''verify game integrity''.If the game was ot acquired via steam, reinstall it or try finding that file online.

Google "d3dx9_42.dll", download it and drop it in the install folder of your game.

This site is safe, pick the 3rd option, zip file.

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_42

well that worked but now it says "application was unable to start correctly(0xc000007b).click ok to close the application.

Well yeah if it is pirated that dll could be the one that cracked the game, thus having a genuine one of that file might do that.
