SSD and Hard Drive?

Brandmuffin
Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

I would keep a hard drive and an SSD in your build - hard drive for mass storage, and the SSD for programs and the OS. That being said, you can keep everything on the SSD and use the hard drive as a backup for the system as well.

It's not really a "requirement" though.

if im building a new gaming pc do i really need a hard drive and an ssd or just an ssd?

You should get both because for the SSD you can put your OS on it which will make it boot within seconds and for the HDD for like games or other files that you may need to store.

You don't 'need' an hdd. HDDs nowadays are just for archive storage and sometimes games.

I would still keep a hard drive for backup purposes at the very least.

If you can afford to go with a large enough SSD to store your entire system and have some room for growth, then by all means, its a far superior option.  For those of us who primarily use laptops all the time, this is basically what we do as most laptops cannot physically accommodate both a SSD and a HDD.

You'll still need/want a HDD for backup, but in an external enclosure more than likely.

if you're on a budget, it depends

if you're not storing a lot, get an SSD first and then a HDD later

if you have a lot of data to store, a HDD then an SSD later

if you have no issue with getting both comfortably, get a SSD + HDD at the same time :D

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately
