Samsung 850 Evo 2.5 vs m.2

I have made a lot of posts about getting an SSD. I was planning on getting the OCZ Trion 150 240GB, but my budget just got a little bigger and they ran out of stock on Amazon. So I started considering the Samsung 850 Evo. How much better is it really? Would you pay the extra $20-30 for it? And what about the m.2 editon. My board (z97-ar) has m.2 support. What are the advantages and disadvantages of me getting the m.2 edition, and what you do?

Yes ... it worth it. I recently switched from OCZ ARC 100 which is lower teir than your original purchase, i see massive improvement in IO. Now my application started up much quicker than my old SSD and my boot speed decreased from 20sec down to 5 secs. Also my windows lagging aero experience is completing gone even after clone migration tool and was not even a clean install. 

 

In short, get the EVO is a good overall SSD and will last much longer than Trion.

850 EVO SATA III is by far the best value for your cash.

The PNY CS1311 240GB is $60 right now, and I think it's about as fast as the OCZ Trion 150.

Yeah I already looked into it. It is faster for large file transfers than the OCZ Trion 150, but slower in smaller transfers. So I would go with the OCZ Trion 150.

How many GBs is it? My OCZ Arc100 240GB is actually only 220GB of usable space.

Smaller transfers are handled via SYS RAM which is used by Samsung's magician software - it's around 58000MB/s

M.2 will only make a difference if it uses the pcie 3.0 Northbridge lanes.  Some boards are limit m.2 functionality to the southbridge, sharing bandwith with SATA ports.

Yeah, but I don't think its even fast enough, its only m.2 sata.

While I fully agree with the 850 evo, you have an extra 0 there. 

 

 

And RAPID mode is primarily just to beef up benchmarks. It's nice, but the real world benefits are fairly small.

 

I do fully agree, go with the 850 evo. It's damn good value.

That's about the average from what I've seen, and that isn't mine, just a google image. I've thrown them in a bunch of systems and see roughly the same. Can I see a screenshot of yours with RAPID on?
