Aid in replacing old HDD

TDSrock
Go to solution Solved by Redsun20,

I will agree with everyone and suggest a WD drive. Use a WD Red if you don't mind slightly lownger loading times, a Black if you can't stand waiting around. Here are links to both in the UK (IDK where you live, so I can't be super specific):

Black:http://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-3-5-inch-Internal-Hard-Drive/dp/B00FJRS5OW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1460585920&sr=8-1&keywords=WD+black+3tb

Red: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-WD30EFRX-Desktop-Drive/dp/B008JJLW4M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1460585902&sr=8-1&keywords=WD+red+3tb

Hello all.

A while back I thought my old PC was starting get well, get old. due to some odd behavior I saw. After some saving I replaced the entire PC excluding the HDD. The HDD had files & programs that I refused to lose/reinstall.

However the same issue seems to appear on my new PC as well(especially after long run-time). As such I aim to replace my current HDD. However I still don't want to lose my files. I aim migrate the entire partition to a new drive.

I'm pretty sure that would just work aslong as the new drive has enough storage to take the 1,80tb partition.
I've looked around some and as far as I can tell WD red drive's seem like a great option for me as here's what I am looking for:

  • A minimum of 2tb storage
  • Highly preferred 24/7 use
  • faster = better
  • Price max of 200(euro)(hard cap) preferred price around 150(euro), or lower of-course!

The HDD's main purpose is to be the home of the OS and tons of non-gaming related files and non-active project files(for video/game projects)

Now I could just go off and grab a drive but I'd love to get some advice. If anyone knows a good drive that fits those musts and preferences I'd love to hear it.

Appreciated.

Both from WD:

WD WD2003FZEX (WD Black 2TB)

WD WD20EFRX (WD Red 2TB)

Red is recommended for NAS, so 24/7 usage.

I'm bias towards WD, so I say red

I cant speak for your country but I can pick up a 3tb WD Black for just under $200USD so you could spring for one of those

If you want to have some sort of ssd speed + hdd capacity in one drive an SSHD maybe the solution for you like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178380&cm_re=sshd-_-22-178-380-_-Product

WD also make dual drive like 128gbssd + 1 Tb drive, but you can't clone a 2tb drive on this dual drive and I didn't found a higher capacity for this lineup

CPU; i5 3570k | Motherboard; Asus P8z77 V-LK | RAM; 16GB (2x8GB) G. Skill ripjaws 1600 | GPU; AMD Readon 7850 2GB | Case; Fractal Design Define R5 | Storage; 1x OCZ Vertex 3 Series 120GB; 1x  Seagate Barracuda 1TB; 1x WD Green 3TB | PSU; SeaSonic 520W 80 PLUS PLATINUM Fanless | Cooling; Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO with LTT NF-F12 pwm  | Operating System; Windows 7 Ultimate |

Appreciate your time all.
Seems like my initial thought of getting a WD red would be the best for me. The SSD I have in my computer is already there for things I need to acces allot & want fast load times for.
