Hello! I am coming into PC gaming from an old, low tier laptop, and I'm looking to build my first PC so I can play nearly any game at mid-high settings with at least around 50-60 fps. The main concerns I have right now are the compatibility of my parts and the possibility of snatching a better part for the same price. Additionally, I would like to not have any parts be cut off a significant amount by the potential low performance of a single part. If there is a better part for the build at a similar price, that would be amazing if anyone could help me with that.

The parts are: (Link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WcvJFT)

AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor

MSI 970 GAMING ATX AM3+ Motherboard

Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

On top of that, I need a pair of headphones and a mic, would this (Logitech G230 Headset ) suffice?
As I am new to PCs, I have watched and learned some things from Linus' YouTube channel(s?), but I am completely a "noob" to forums and building a custom PC. Thanks for your time!

Also for headphones, I'd go with the superlux 668Bs

Welcome to the forum! Consider saying hello and introducing yourself to the community in the 'Off Topic' subforum. Remember to quote people or tag them with an '@' like this- @Aereldor if you want them to reply.

Your build looks good, but your CPU is using an antiquated architecture which doesn't perform too well in games due to its slow single-core performance. Furthermore, games don't leverage all 6 cores, and are mostly restricted to 4, which means you won't be seeing great performance from it. I wouldn't recommend buying AMD processors until their new 'Zen' line hits later this year.

Could you tell us your total budget, location, and what games you're willing to play, and what else you intend to use the PC for?

My intended budget was around $650, but I could adjust for a higher price. I just cant go above $700 simply because I don't have the money to. I am in Arizona, US. And I'm willing to play nearly any game, but I plan on playing GTA V and other open world games.

Here's a build I put together for a similar budget to yours. It features a much better CPU, as well as a better, more reliable power supply. The case is a little more minimalist, true to the Fractal aesthetic, but I think it's great value for its features and build quality at a low price of $25.

I also threw in a pair of Superlux HD-681 headphones. I own the refreshed version of these, but they haven't changed much, and these are really great open-back reference headphones which deliver clean, balanced sound at a very low price point.

Alright. See the build I suggested a little while ago, although if you can afford to spend up to $700, I'd upgrade your graphics card to a faster R9 380x or an R9 390 that can more or less max out anything at 1080p.

Would it be necessary with a locked CPU? Also, I don't know about all MSI boards, but the H110M Gaming board had some weird clearance issues between a Sapphire 390 backplate and the RAM.

Also, the similarly-priced MSI H110M PRO-VD has no system fan headers, which means OP will either need a controller, or be alright with plugging his fans into the PSU Molex cables and having them pinned at full speed.

EDIT: My mistake, it has one, carefully concealed behind the PCI-e slot. However, power delivery is probably similar with the 4-pin CPU power connector both boards have.

Huh. The lowest I can recommend you without downgrading any part from my "Great PC for price" recommendation is $738.16. Can you make it?

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

Maybe, I'm not 100% ill be able to get that money. If you could downgrade a part for me just incase I don't have the money as a failsafe would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Here's the original list, if you can make it: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZYXwMp

A downgraded list, as a backup would be @Aereldor's build, suggested a few posts above:

Cut to a 1x8 gb stick. It'll reduce the price and will allow for an upgrade to 16gb in the future. Then switch over to Gigabyte's $299 R9 390 and you're in budget again, and if OP really can't squeeze in that 10 $10 more, drop to a Core i5 6400.

I admire your penny pinching skills. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to get a 1x8GB stick rather than a 2x4GB stick.

I'm currently weighing the merits of getting a headset rather than reference headphones and a desktop condenser microphone.

Well then @TheCrimsonWolf123, @Aereldor's last build would be the one we both agree on, and recommend.

If you can afford the extra $25 price premium, take his build and switch to an i5-6500. Or else just go for his build. ^_^
