Honest Opinions (Twin Build + Server)

ddbtkd456

So the idea..is to make these both as silent as possible....if you have suggestions please check and make sure they work with the cases and match the colors of each perspective build. The reason for the server is to centralize all movies/music/important data in a single location. I will explain uses, budgets and all that good stuff with each build. Thanks.

Name: Purple Sky

Colors: White & Purple

Uses: Runescape, Sims 3+4, General Use, Streaming movies and music from Home Server, Professional Use, & School work.

Budget: $2,100 +/- $100 (USD)

Case: It's my fiance's case and it was literally the only one she liked so thats locked, and she prefers wireless keyboard/mouse, everything else is subject for change.

As for the first build, rejecting asthetics.

Water cooled GPU in a silence optimized case with a Noctua cooler so you should be set for noise.

It also includes a better display, 1440p 144hz IPS with free-sync

overclocking really isn't going to be worth paying the extra for, as it would make more sense to get a 5820K if you need CPU performance given that it costs the same as the 6700K

As for that server, just naw man, see the video below, it has an 8 core intel CPU with ECC memory support, you just need unbuffered/unregistered, and throw that into a silence optimized case as well. that one is just naw.

You also probably don't need CAT7 cables but I guess they aren't too expensive?

I'm confused by what you said. That post made no sense at all I have 3 separate builds and you just ignored everything I said in the first post? I'm confused. Not to mention that I have limits on everything, I assume that last build was for the server like you were talking about but I could be wrong. Server budget is $1000 (USD), and yes color-matching are the most important thing next to performance for me so things do have to match. I mean if the people helping are just going to ignore everything the OP is posting about why even post at all? As for FreeNas I already said what system I was going to be using, this is my first home server and I would like to keep things simple, if you have a reason as to why I shouldn't please state it instead of just "naw man"...

If you've previously won the build off please pm me so we can get something worked out.

You have an A10 7850K as the CPU for your server, it could be much better especially given that budget and it also needs more RAM, and you have odd drive choices with no redundancy.

As for the other stuff, feel free to change the case or whatever, but you have a stange fan situation, you probably don't need that many fans to keep things cool as most cases come with enough fans and if you want more go for a 120mm fan 4 pack like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200072

as for the hardware in those builds, I go for performance per dollar, so on that front, spending $100-200+ on getting .5 more ghz over the 6700 isn't really going to be worth it, and you could be getting much better displays for your budget, a nice looking display is probably going to be more important than a nice looking PC. Especially if you want silence which a foam laden panel over a window is going to help with. But if you're stuck on asthetics those builds are fine, although the display there has no VESA compatibility.

I missed the part about being 2 full builds rather than trying to decide on one.

Also you could just put the blu ray drive in the server for ripping, as actually playing a blu ray disk on a PC can be an issue as you'll need to buy software to decode it that can be pricey, best off with just a blu ray player, and once it's on the server you can just stream it anywhere anyways.

Thank you for clarifing that. Alright point taken do you have a recommend system as an example for the home server? And also in your opinion FreeNas is better? I read something on lifehacker that said it was geared more for like an advanced user, this will be my first time actually setting up a true server and not just a hard drive I put on my internal network from my pc. Also with the white build the 2 purple fans are going in front of the switch 810, and the rosewills are going on the Kraken, since they have better static pressure. Mine is suppose to have two for the kraken, and one more to mount in front of the GPU so I can blow air out the back of my case.

If you've previously won the build off please pm me so we can get something worked out.

The built in fans on the cooler should be more than enough.

Server is in that video, You'll be fine with freeNAS just read a tutorial or 2.

Also if you at least saved money on the CPU going with the 6700 you'd be able to fit in a higher end display, either the gaming oriented ones already in the display.

or something like this, which is a 27" 4K IPS Free-sync display at $450, though 32" + would be better for productivity naturally

Yea but the 390x doesn't scale to 4k very well. It gets mid 40's on most games with this config, for that reason I decided to go with the 1440p

Nothing runs 4k well atm, but the display is an investment, as you'll never have to replace it, and in a few months all the new GPUs are coming out anyways, that can actually run 4k 60fps.

or there's that 1440p 144hz display which is going to be better for gaming and easily worth it's extra cost
