Posted April 11, 2016 Shalom fellow Techtippers, this is my first thread and post actually, I came across the Linustechtips channel when I started planning a new Rig and now I finally made it to the Forums. Reason I opened up this topic is: The NEWS topic announcing the launch of the Gigabyte R9 Fury Windforce is quite old and the forum recommended that I open a new thread on this. Anyway this thread should not be about news (as the card launched quite some time ago) but about the card and its performance. It just so happened, that I found a massive rebate on said card last weekend and couldn't resist the urge to buy it. Since I'm still stuck in Bangkok until End of April and ordered the card to be delivered to my home in germany, I wanted to ask you tech-folks about your experiences with the Gigabyte R9 Fury Windforce OC. Any of you got one? Is it running smooth and quiet? Did you experience any problems or did you encounter any massive disappointment? Have you benchmarked your card? Have you oveclocked it? ... So I guess you people see where this is going. I feel like getting some real world info about the cards performance from everyday users. Maybe I was looking in the wrong places but I couldn't find a single benchmark online, that covered this specific card. And since it's still about a month until I will finally get to build my new Rig, I really want to know if I made a nice deal on the weekend or bought a pile of trash... I didn't come across any reviews that might confirm you. Furthermore, the same cooler designs are used on nVidia cards as well as AMD cards, so problems should be existing for both, if it's just about the cooler. Also the Windforce coolers have been made for quite a while now, so even if there were quality issues with some earlier production charges, those should be fixed by now (assuming Gigabyte does have a functioning QM in some way). Anyway, I don't want to be Mr. Smarty-pants, neither intend to start the AMD vs. nVidia ragewar here, but I'd really like to know why... why should the coolers not be well made on AMD cards if there so widely used and accepted on nVidia cards? Did you or your friends make any bad experiences with them? Or did you read about it somewhere, maybe reviews of other people who bought these cards? Please attach a link if possible You answered your own doubts - the Nvidia coolers are copy-pasted without any thought - half the heatpipes don't make contacnt and the VRMs are left without cooling as AMD one are on the back and Nvidia on the front Note the TIM spot. Posted April 11, 2016 Author But does that picture show the cooler for a R9 fury or was that for another chip/PCB?? In other words, are you sure that this is still true for the R9 Fury from Gigabyte? Because they are the first to offer a custom cooler together with a custom PCB design for the Fury...
