The cheaper one, there isn't a significant difference in performance.

People just say one or the other because they like the company or they had a bad experience with the company.

but will the windforce one have better cooling??

I am in the budget for a GTX 960. I have 2 options the GTX 960 SSC by EVGA or the Windforce Edition by Gigabyte

I would personally go with EVGA as they have the best customer service. If you're looking at cooling/noise, then avoid their mini versions of the card.

If you have the option to get a high refresh rate monitor, do it.

No, and Gigabyte's coolers+customer support aren't as good as EVGA's.

Even if it does it might be noisier.

Just go for the cheaper card or the one you think looks better.

I personally like EVGA but I'll never judge someone for buying a card from Gigabyte since it's not a wrong choice.

I think you should also add this to your question, as it might  help those who are interested in 960, as i am !

What about ASUS GTX 960 OC STRIX ? in terms of cooling and quality.

Ryzen 5 3600 | MSI B450 Tomahawk Max | Corsair Vengeance lpx 32gb 3600mhz | EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING | XPG Core Reactor 850w

Asus's graphics cards in general aren't that good, and go from being better than Gigabyte's, to worse.

In what way? They cool well and the STRIX is very quiet as far as air-cooled cards go. For some reason that sentiment just keeps getting passed around.

They cool slightly worse than other cards, and they are only quiet because of the 0 fan mode.

Can you find a source on that? Also they are quite quiet under load as well, roughly as loud in high-load as the ACX is in low-medium load, at least from what I could tell personally.

Edit: The main disadvantage of the strix is that it's ugly as sin :P

Sure... https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_geforce_gtx_970_strix_review,27.html

Can you find me any that states otherwise? It's 1 or 2 degrees hotter while drastically quieter. Btw you can adjust the fan curve to make it just as cold, you just get rid of some of the silence.

The STRIX, although it's ugly as all sin, is very slightly hotter than the ACX, while being drastically more silent than the ACX. You can set your own fan curve and have it be louder than stock, but cool just as well as the ACX, if the extra 1 or 2 degrees REALLY bothers you. It's an intentional tradeoff in the stock configuration. This also translates to the TwinFrozr V.

I'd go with the TwinFrozr V, it's almost identical in performance and noise to the STRIX, but that's purely because of aesthetic.

Both the STRIX and the TwinFrozr V run a bit hotter than a Windforce or ACX, but that is because they both attempted to be silence-optimized. By setting your own fan curve you can have them be just as cool as one with an ACX cooler, they'll just be louder than they are at stock (although still quieter than the ACX).
