Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what the difference was between the Intel i7 - 4770 and the i7 - 4771.

0.1 GHz on the base clock, but the same boost clock so as long as your motherboard doesn't have stupid power settings, they'll perform the same.

Ok, the 4771s base clock is 100 mhz faster. But did Intel really need to add another processor to their line for a 100 mhz boost?

I'm thinking it was just a way of binning or just to con script kiddies

They have different release dates. I'm guessing the binning turned out a bit better than expected or something and they just wanted to make a few more bucks. Remember, instead of released broadwell they released Haswell refresh chips, which are identical to original haswell except for binning and TIM.

I know, but the Haswell refresh wasn't until about a year later and the 4771 came out a month after the 4770.

Edit: ok, a little more than a month but you get the idea
