GPU Cooling

ripper101

So my GPU is getting hotter than I would have initially liked so I want to put a fan under it to see if my temps improve. Should it be an intake out exhaust?

And what kind of temps are you seeing and when, how much stress are you putting on your GPU? what games? what software?

80 degrees in games like GTA 5 and BF4 and heaven benchmark doesn't go above 77

Remember that the gm200 core runs warmer than other maxwell cores so...

I have bad airflow, I'm looking to improve it by seeing if another fan will help and I wanted to know wether putting an exhaust or intake would be better :)

That's a bit concerning, make sure your case fans are working and move air through the case. How many do you have?

2... Can you answer my intail question whether it would be better to put an intake or exhaust below it? :)

You can put an exhaust next to it (if there's a vent nearby). But I don't think you should need to.

I assume you've got the Twin Frozr cooler? Did you set a custom fan curve?

No I'm kind of a noise freak and the temps don't mean to much to me or the life time because I don't play those games often enough to make a difference in life time most have been playing cs go and dayz which don't put barely any load on the GPU

That's either not your rig or you have no idea what GPU you have. That is a R9 390(x). Not a 980ti

Like @afyeung said, its a 390(X). The triple-slot cooler gives it away.

I don't understand why he would tell people he has a 980ti when that's obviously a custom built system so he should know what he put in there. Or somebody cheated him out of a system and sold it to him as a 980ti which is bad. But he seems like he know a thing or two about benchmarking and heaven tells you what card you have. 980ti and 390x are in completely different leagues. 390x is extremely hot, 80c is normal for an aftermarket 390x, not for a aftermarket 980ti which is much more efficient

Also the airflow isn't bad at all from what we can see.

That is an older picture because I don't feel like moving my computer and getting a picture for it. 390x or 980ti, I have nothing to prove to you.

well, that picture is definitely not yours :/

why would you be complaining about the temperatures when the airflow is open.

*since. And no need for the attitude. Your temps are abnormally high for a 980ti but not a 390x. And if that's an old picture and all you did was replace the card then the airflow is perfect.

No, I don't believe the airflow is perfect because when I place my hand in my system after taking the side panel off the air is pretty hot. So this leads me to believe that the high temperatures are a result of my system not having good airflow to compensate for the heat dissipation by the graphics card just trying to cool it's self with the hot air it just put off of itself. Here is a photo if it makes you feel a little better SINCE (thanks really appreciated the help on that one!!) "the system is not mine"
