You could either go with a single 1440p display or dual 1080p displays if you need to do some productivity work as well as gaming, this 1440p display has a highly adjustable stand built in

380 is a bit weak for 1440p though, a 390 would be preferable, but that would mean dropping your i7 to an i5 which isn't preferable for rendering.

suppose you could drop the SSD to fit it in, but I'd say getting a good primary display is going to be the best option over any of that

Of course if you're feeling extra crazy and you want to buy one display forever, there is a 27" 4k IPS free-sync display at only 360 pounds

Why on earth spend a quarter of the budget on a monitor?

How about this (the fury is basically the same price or slightly more than a 980 but for a tad of extra performance as well so...)

1440p is too much for his budget, unless we drop down to haswell xeons (specifically the xeon 1231v3) we are allocating half of the budget on a CPU and monitor only...

Just means you end up with a bit weaker GPU, but new GPUs are coming in a few months anyways, and the 380 isn't going to be too bad for 1440p medium settings in most games

Sure, I'm on it :D (if you want 1440p, there may be a sacrifice down to haswell CPUs but they perform basically the same so it's your call)

At the start, he literally just said he managed to convince his parents for him to build a PC so what are the chances that he's going to be able to upgrade in a few months time?

well then at least go for 144hz, though it won't be a color accurate IPS display for rendering

this one has a 1080p 144hz free-sync display, you could drop the GPU to a 380X to get it under budget if you really need to

wait video editing, or 3D modeling/CAD work?

well then at least go for 144hz, though it won't be a color accurate IPS display for rendering

this one has a 1080p 144hz free-sync display, you could drop the GPU to a 380X to get it under budget if you really need to

wait video editing, or 3D modeling/CAD work?
