PS4K

So I was just wondering how much upscaling to 4k can really do? Surely it won't be like vanilla 4k quality am I right?

Assuming the original output does 1080p, then it does 4x scale.

yeah right, I was just wondering if there would be differences vs a vanilla 4k output

Yes, upscaled 4k doesn't look much better than 1080p, real 4k looks much better.

OOOH YEAH, that's what I wanted to hear. Guess upscaling somethnig as good as vanilla 4k would demand as much power as actually outputting 4k, right?

No. Not at all.

It is like scaling an image bigger, and you apply some filtering to smooth things out, and sharpen things after so that they are not blurry. It is not as nice as the native 4K, but much less demanding than native 4K.

The big logical flaw here is that you basically can't buy a 4K TV that doesn't upscale itself. I'm hoping that it can at least manage 1080p 60fps. The filtering TVs apply as it is is a big part to why consoles don't feel as bad as a PC outputting 720p 30fps.
