Budget Video Editing PC

Hey guys, I'm currently starting up a Youtube channel, and I needed a free video editor to master my videos. I found DaVinci Resolve 12, which is surprisingly a premium quality program even at  the free level, but it requires a minimum of 8GB of RAM. I am an Amazon shopper, and I was hoping you guys could point out an optimum build for video editing

under $130? If you find anything, please let me know. Thanks a lot.

I would prefer an ATX form factor if it's possible to fit in the budget, but any other form factor is fine.

Here's a list of what I already have:

80GB HDD

Compaq Monitor with built-in speakers and required cables

Do you already have a PC? It would be easy to salvage some parts to us in your build unless you are fine with base-line AMD's and Intel Atom's/Pentium's.

I have a lenovo sl410 thinkpad, but the only thing I could salvage from it is the hard drive, as my laptop cannot handle davinci's resource hungry programs.

I see your problem. Just up your budget to 200 bucks, and you should do a little better.

This is the best build I could get you, but it won't suffice if you're going to buy from Amazon. Newegg is your best bet.

Buy a Core 2 Quad Q6600, a cheap-ass G41 motherboard and a cheap graphics card, with a PSU to top it all off. DDR2 RAM is cheap and easy to come by.

But honestly, you're not gonna have a fun time. $130 is easy for me to do if it's just a facebook machine, but other than that...

Quadruple your budget and then come back to us, is my recommendation.

Amazon has nothing for you.

If you're just starting out, and want this project to happen and don't have the funds to build a better setup...

I have seen a lot of decent quality youtube videos made with nothing more than a cell phone for recording video, and editing done with windows movie maker.  It has very little in the way of system requirements, granted it's not the most powerful piece of software you'll come across.. It in my opinion is your best option given your current hardware situation.  It's surprisingly capable and very easy to learn and use.

With a very small budget like that you're much better off just saving it, for what you want to do.  If the channel actually takes off then look into upgrading your hardware situation.  MOST computers are capable of video editing, when you see people build pc's specifically for it they are building one that can just do it faster.

My .02 anyway.

This is the cheapest I can do that won't be complete shit. I'd still recommend spending another $100 on a decent GPU like an R7 370, but this build already relies on ebay and used parts, and massive overclocking to get reasonable performance:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: i7-860 ($70.00)
Motherboard: Intel DP55WG Board ($75.00)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($24.29 @ OutletPC)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($29.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 6450 1GB Video Card  ($24.99 @ Micro Center)
Case: Fractal Design Core 2300 ATX Mid Tower Case  ($44.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($29.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $299.24

With a decent GPU, it looks like this and is actually a decent all round gaming/streaming/workstation PC:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: i7-860 ($70.00)

Motherboard: Intel DP55WG Board ($75.00)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($24.29 @ OutletPC)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($29.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon R7 370 2GB PCS+ Video Card  ($118.98 @ Newegg)
Case: Fractal Design Core 2300 ATX Mid Tower Case  ($44.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($29.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $393.23
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-04-03 12:02 EDT-0400

If you really want to cut corners, you can do this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel DP55WG Board ($75.00)
Motherboard: i5-760 ($45.00)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($24.29 @ OutletPC)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($29.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon HD 5450 1GB Video Card  ($12.98 @ Newegg)
Case: Cooler Master TC102 ATX Mid Tower Case w/500W Power Supply  ($37.99 @ Micro Center)
Total: $225.25
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-04-03 12:07 EDT-0400

But I wouldn't. I really really wouldn't.

Oh, ok. I didn't know that WMM was any good. I've heard just about everyone bash anything made by Microsoft and thought it would be no exception. Thanks for your feedback, and I'll let you know how it goes.

*UPDATE* I just remembered I have an old copy of Win7 and an ATX form factor case, so that will bring the cost of the final build down a bit. Still no cpu or gpu, though. *sigh*
