I am planning on getting two new gpu's. I will be doing triple monitor gaming like in modded Skyrim, Elite Dangerous and etc. Would 970/1070 SLI or AMD crossfire equivalent run triple LG Ultrawide 25" monitors OC to 75Hrz with settings at high or near?

Around high yes, but it depends entirely on how well the game scales SLI/CF and if the game even supports SLI/CF

which is one of the reasons why imo a single card would be better than 2

If you have your heart set on SLI/CF i would go for dual 390's though they eat through wattage

Ultrawide 25's in surround is going to be a lot of pixels to push. Considering you're already going from 1920x1080 to 2560x1080 you'd be jumping from 5760x1080 to 7680x1080 . . Would they run it on high? Possibly, but at what frame rates is the better question . . .

I have an SLI 970 setup, running 3 24" 1080p 144hz monitors at a resolution of 5960x1080 (bezel corrected in surround). I can pull off 100 fps in Black ops III running maxed out minus the texture details bug. I can handle witcher 3 with changing hair works at runnable frames (around 50 fps) with my own SLI profile attached. Skyrim can run easily but with the modded files for extra textures, the requirements will jump up.

Just remember that SLI is not always supported, and you need to have a great understanding of how to modify SLI profiles, and for what you are theoretically wanting to push, you will need to overclock your 970's a good bit. Here is my latest score in firestrike showing what they ARE capable of with work. . .

A single GTX 980 TI will be a LOT less headache and have more consistent performance.

In limited situations where SLI is fully supported, dual 970 cards are faster than a single 980 TI, however there are so many "conditions" to that, why bother?
