So I recently received all my parts in the mail and I want to start building my computer. My last build I did on a tile surface but I moved so I no longer have tiles. I'm going to be building it in my room and placing the pc on my desk. I'm almost certain if I touch my metal case, or plug in my esd wrist strap into the ground of a outlet I should be fine, I guess I just want confirmation? Also would it be better if I stood on cardboard, or a old pc metal panel?

Ive built 5 on carpet and had no issues. Just take off your socks and touch your case every time you put in a new part. (big filing cabinets is what I use)

just make sure you ground yourself often is all you have to do

if you have ESD strap, plug your psu in and clip it to the casing, without turning the psu on of course and you should be golden

(assuming your wiring is grounded and all)

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately
