Last Gen Nvidia Graphics Cards

Go to solution Solved by sapphirethunder,

There is kind of an misconception going on where people think that NVidia would be deliberately making 700 series lose performance/not getting support in driver side.

Like, some 780Ti used to be faster than, a R9 290/290X but now 290/290X is showing better performance than 780Ti in latest game titles.

But the truth is that AMD's drivers just mature slower. When R9 290/x were new, they had unmatured drivers. As time went by, NVidia's drivers hit the maturity but AMD's didn't until Crimson drivers..

Browsing Kijiji for a new GPU i see a few Nvidia 700 series cards. The one I'm looking at is a Asus ROG 760x2 for $250. The reason why i want a x2 card is because i want to run unraid so i can play with my friends off of 1 tower and only have 1 pcie slot to do so. My question is what is Nvidia doing to their 700 series cards? I heard someone say yesterday "Rip 780 ti owners". What does that mean?

The 760 is only a bit better than the 750ti, so you're almost playing with two 950's. The Mars card from ASUS is dual 760's like you mentioned. But IMO, Kepler isn't in for the long haul, so I'd consider something better, or two GPU's that are better.

Nvidia is not updating drivers anymore for their Kepler cards. They are focused on the 900 Series Maxwell cards. Likely same will happen to Maxwell cards when Pascal cards are out.

AMD drivers on the other hand always support their older cards, and with time, their older generations gain performance - this is a good thing, because you don't always have to upgrade where as with nvidia, the technologies might have problems on older generation cards...

The 700 series doesn't have DX12 support.  Doesn't really explain the RIP 780ti, but nothing will as it's probably just some slander of sorts.
