max power draw with that setup is going to be around 300-350w,

a quality 450-500w psu would be enough, maybe 550w if you are overclocking

the socks out of a super high end gpu at some point.

If you looking to maybe get a dual gpu card youd need more obviously.

Sure, if you like that one. Its a quality psu and will power any single gpu with an overclock.

If you want to save a little there are cheaper options, if you want a silent system there are more quiet options (those mostly cost some extra money though :/).

Why not get the Seasonic one, its $61, more wattage for less money, better componants/quality too..

The 70w over the GS isn't really an advantage, as the Seasonic S12II-B 620 is a group regulated design where it will offer worse electrical performance than the GS which is DC-DC regulation (which is also a Seasonic build PSU - similar to the G series but not exactly). It's also offer better efficiency, full modularity, a more quiet operation, and it is better build than the S12II-B as well.

I found 2 less expensive options: EVGA G2 550W, and Corsair RM550x.

Are they any good?

i'd say go for the corsair, a friend of mine recently got an RMx (although, i think it was the 650 watt variant) and was very satisfied with what he got.

Is there any diffrence between them?

to be very brutally honest: once a power supply doesnt catch fire at its rated wattage and outputs within margins, there is very little difference for the regular plebs.

it comes down to features, and details like the cables: (eg, do they not look like the worst ketchup-mustard massacre ever)

theres a few power supply listings around the forum, but the general deal is "once its a propperly designed piece of kit, theres little more to be improved on the technical field"

The EVGA PSU got A 10/10 score while RMx 550w got 9.5 at jonnyguru.com .

I am building a new pc:

-H170

-R9 380X

-ddr4 8gb

-EVGA GS SuperNova 550W(is it a right pick for this system?)

Great choice

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Well, to start out, both the 550 GS and S12II-B 620 are both capable of power that system. But if the OP is in the situation where he can't power a system on the 550 GS, I personally would look into getting something else than the S12II-B 620w, TBH. While it can output 620w continuously in a more static, controlled loading, loads are more dynamic in the real world. The quasi-crossload (not to the extreme as sites like JG does though) and transient loads (PSU's ability to hold it regulations) that modern day computer put it in, the voltages may be rather erratic at heavy loads. For example, S12II-B / GB based HCG-620, you can see how different the crossload profile at TPU (over 1000 different load simulations) than the 550GS is. As well as the HCG-620M sample did poorly on the transient load testing.

Again, the S12II-B isn't a bad budget unit, and if the OP wishes to save money, that can indeed be an option for his system.

Seasonic is the OEM, but it was redesigned by EVGA.

Outside of what they will allowed, Seasonic doesn't do much custom design and are a bit more limiting as to what a contractor like EVGA, Corsair, Antec, etc. could change in a platform in comparison to CWT, FSP, Delta, etc. The 550-650 is actually a new platform from Seasonic (not a modified G series made for solely EVGA) that Cyonic also uses in the AUx series and possibly others in the future.

Edit: it had even been discuss at JG: http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12364

If they are less expensive, then I would go for either of those. They are both solid units. But what are the prices?

Interestingly enough, the 550/650 G2 only offer a 7 year warranty, whereas the 750+ has 10. Recently, Corsair had updated the warranty of the RMx to 10 years. On top of that, the Corsair RMx does have a more quiet profile, if that's a concern.

AFAIK, Jeremy of JG didn't review the RM550x, so I'm not sure where you got 9.5 from; however, even if he did, you shouldn't gauge the quality of the power supply by the scoring. Pricing, for example, can change as time goes by. If something is of poor value one day (which JG may score against), it may not be the next.

Here's conclusion of the review on the RM550x by Aris at Tomshardware: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/corsair-rm550x-power-supply,4484-10.html

Feel free to go back to read the rest if you wish.
