I have read some of the "experiences with non techies" and i realize i dont know some basic stuff. For example people were laughing at some dude saying you should use a VGA for the best experience with monitors. But i dont know why thats wrong, i have seen the "fast as possible video's" and "linus tech tips video's" linus, luke and the others make, so im not completly clueless sbout computers. But i still dont know everything, any place where there is somebody that can explain the basics and some of the more advanced stuff? Either in text or video format.

i learnt a lot by watching tech videos on yt

and hanging around here allowed me to further increase my knowledge :P

especially in pc parts picking and the latest news (although i already watch the ncix tech news everyday)

well...

this is because VGA is an analogue signal

so there might be some degredation in image quality when using analogue way to transfer data

HDMI and displayport however uses digital, which as long as it doesnt corrupt on the way there, it should display the same quality image no matter 1 meter or 1 kilometer away :D

also, VGA doesnt support higher resolutions at high refresh rates, though im not quite sure on this, wait for others to confirm this :D

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Firstly, know what you don't know and use Google.  Wikipedia is very very useful in completing basic knowledge.  Like the example given, just Google VGA and see what it says.  From the get go you learn that it cannot support very high resolutions at high refresh rates, and that analog signals degrade the longer the cable.  It is also a bulky connector and the standard is very old with some safety features unavailable.

From here you know what kind of information to look for.  You know VGA is a video connector, and you probably also know that HDMI is too.  Then you compare the two and you can learn the difference and you start to understand why people say certain things and when people say something new, you have the basic knowledge of what the differences are and why they are saying a different thing now.

Any other question, you can ask them here.  The community is large enough that people with expertise in all sorts of tech regularly contribute in posts and people with varying experiences can help each other out.

Some things, like why VGA is bad for modern displays and why HDMI isn't best there is, are something you learn overtime. And by watching multiple different videos or reading tech articles.

And just because. VGA is analogue (as said). While analogue is better for something, transferring video signal is not among them. HDMI isn't best thing ever. Yes, it works for media use since single cable carries both audio and video streams. But since it only now has got added more bandwidth for higher refresh rate and resolution, it has fallen behind of DVI (digital video input) and DisplayPort (formerly Apple thing). Which both have had support for such things since day 1 (etc.).

As you may see above, I don't know facts (or care to know them) in full extend or in deeper detail. But I know just enough to explain things my own words.
