I just got a core 2 quad q6600 for $16 off of ebay and while I wait for the motherboard to be delivered I was wondering if anyone has a q6600 and can tell me how the thing still performs

Wont beat a 860K but in most cases it should be able to play anything what graphics card ya gonna get for it? :D

At stock they're decently capable. They can chew through "normal" activities like browsing the web and casual games pretty easily. For something more high end like gaming it's going to have some issues in CPU intense games especially. My QX9650 at stock had a lot of hitching issues and frame drops in games like AC Unity, Inquisition and Far Cry 4.

 

If you've found a good enough motherboard that you can overclock into the 3.5+ GHz range then you should see a lot of issues start to lessen but they'll never disappear. A DDR3 based motherboard is also a good idea but they are often more expensive and harder to find, they are often much better quality.

the machine is mostly going to be for web browsing and minecraft and I'm going to use a card I already own a nvidia geforce gt 720 because its more then enough to run minecraft and maybe tf2 which are the only games this machine is ever going to have to run
