How drop protective are aluminum phone bumpers?

I would say somewhat good since most times the phone drops on the corner or edges but they do nothing to protect the screen or backs of phones.

Keep in mind the padding or insulation also contribute to the protection, if you really want protection a nice solid case is the best option.

I'm considering an aluminum bumper w/ back skin for my galaxy s7 edge.

Wouldn't the edge model be counter productive to the bumper? The edge is designed to take up most of the vertical sides and the bumper to protect the edges.

What case are you looking at, it sounds like it would be ok other than maybe the edge thing that Redwulf pointed out.

Yeah I was just wondering about durability.

Well if your drop it the aluminum will dent/deform and get marked up but in general won't wear out or lose it's flexibility like some TPU or plastic cases. I have one on my old iPhone 4 and it it's still good till now let it be a bit worn around the edges.

I still think its all but useless on the edge model, but I'll add that if you can find a model with a plastic or rubber spray coating on the aluminium it'll keep it looking better. I've dropped my S5 religiously since I got it when they released, it is just scuffed up with 1 tiny chip on the side, samsung is pretty tough on its own.

Yeah I just know that aluminum doesn't have the same shock absorbing properties as something like tpu so I was making sure that the phone itself would be okay.
