Movie computer

Go to solution Solved by Yemto,

Okay, this is just way too much, but from what I have understood. Yes, I don't need to look for a graphic card for this build, and Yes, most processors will do for this build

I have been asked to build a movie computer to one of my friends, and while I can put something together I wouldn't say I'm good at it. Anyway, the are basically two things I'm wondering, if the computer is only going to be used for movies, and searching the web (lots of tabs), would it be okay to just get a motherboard which have dvi and hdmi out, instead of getting a graphic card? and how powerful would the processor need to be? So far I have been looking at any processor which can ouput 3840x2160 and is quad core with a clock speed of 3.0 Ghz or above. (Mostly because of my poor experience i had with processor that have less that 3.0Ghz.)

the term commonly used is HTPC (home theater personal computer).

Honestly just get something like the a8 7600 with a mobo with hdmi and you'll be good for web browsing, vlc, pandora, and minecraft. Clock speeds below are considered sub par for PCs.

An i3 is sufficient for this sort of build. Use a H110 motherboard with an HDMI port. The integrated gpu has sufficient power for watching movies and web browsing.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

something like this could work and allow for some light gaming onlow/med resolutions, you could lower the price by going with a cheaper a10 or even an a8, and a hdd instead of a ssd

if i post a link to amazon try to use the LTT affiliate code to help the channel http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=linustechtips-20

OK, when you say output 3840X2160, you mean in HDMI right? and what 30/60Hz?   because finding one that'll output 60Hz in HDMI means it has to be HDMI 2.0 and from looking around they are expensive... have a look here for example  http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2808180/hdmi-small-case-motheroard.html

But, the thing is you can find an android device with HDMI 2.0 very easily, and they can also browse the internet etc on them too... I myself have an MX64 box that is HDMI 2.0 and watch it on my 4k TV... just bear in mind that a lot of movies/TV shows are going to look a bit artifacted as they will typically be 720/1080p at the moment. The 4k that you get from youtube etc though looks excellent. It all depends on who has done the encoding on the videos as to what they will be like of course, I make sure that any that I make are high bitrate rips to try and nullify the artifacting.

You could go AM1 and be perfectly fine, and it'll be low power

now if you're trying to actually play 4k content, ya, probably want something faster than this PC

and ya did you need HDMI 2.0? what you could do is wait a bit if possible and AM4 should be out by then, and it should have HDMI 2.0, unless AMD really screws up
