SSD on Windows XP?

Hello cyber-fellas, we have an old PC that crawls and needs an upgrade. It packs an i3 530 with 2 GB DDR3, some HDD that ran 24/7 for about 4 years. It has Windows XP SP3 I'm thinking that a SSD would be the obivous hardware upgrade, but I've heard that XP is not recommended, since it doesn't have TRIM. Upgrading the OS costs a lot (almost the price of 3 SSDs; Linux is a NO).

 

Do we have to worry about it? Is it OK to clone XP to the SSD? Is there anything more to do? I'm thinking of getting Intel 535 120 GB, for the 5 year warranty.

You want to disable disk defragmentation. otherwise it should be okay

The whole topic of fragmentation, and wearing out a SSD is severely over-done.  Early SSDs didn't tolerate a lot of activity and had poor garbage collection.  The newer ones are pretty bulletproof unless they're severely beaten upon for a prolonged period of time. 

 

So yeah, don't worry about it.  Clone it and be done with it.
