I'm a porsche guy so i like coupes like the boxster, 350z or a gt98. But I live in switzerland and gas aint cheap around here. Currently 1.60.-/litre so i cant get anything to huge plus i would like to have 4 seats... So i also like golfs and stuff but my loves in coupes. So if you have any reccomendations please make sure to let me know and just because i'm curios, what was your first car?

My first car was an '82 Ford Fiesta. It was a piece of crap, but it didn't break down on me once.

So taking that into consideration, I'd suggest you'd get an old Volvo 240. They're cheap and indestructible.

Do not feed.

A Golf would be a pretty good first car.

My first car was a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme I got from my Grandfather. 3.1L V6 and a solid 160HP. The first car I bought and paid for myself however was a 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5i.

I'm going to agree with everyone else. Unless you happen to have a REALLY WELL PAYING JOB (Eg: The equivalent of $50K/year USD or higher), then I recommend you forget about buying a "fun" car. Especially if it's the first car you've ever owned.

Buy something affordable, practical, cheap to repair/maintain, and cheap to run. That means fuel efficient, cheap insurance, etc. You can find cars like this that are at least mildly "sporty", such as a Mazda 3, Golf/Jetta, etc.

Buying something like a 350z or a GT98 as your first car, is, honestly, stupid. Since it's your first car, you haven't learned about being a car owner yet. You haven't experienced having to repair it, etc.

So either buy a REALLY REALLY CHEAP (Like, under $1000 Euro) piece of crap that is easily replaced if the thing gets totalled, or buy a nice good used car that doesn't have too many miles on it. If you can get one that comes with a warranty, even better (Many dealers will offer a warranty on certain certified used cars).

The jellybean Taurus! I had a coworker that had one of those mean machines with 400k miles on it. It's great that both the pictures we pulled from Google are from the same dealership haha.

I'm not sure I can even think of a car over here that is less than 80BHP :P . You can get insured for any car you want over here; just a matter of whether or not you can afford it or not. Personally, I'm only paying $75 USD per month for both of my cars (1997 Subaru Outback & 2015 Ford Fiesta ST).

Yeah over there you just insure the car, but over here the car and the owner gets insured, and things like age, no. of years driving, no. of year without claims come into it, so for a you new driver like me it's very expensive. My current (second) car which is a Suzuki swift sport 2012 costs £200 a month ($282) :(

That's the same in the US (and Canada). You get insurance for a vehicle, but your driving record and age/experience are also factors. If you have more than one vehicle, you can add additional vehicles to your insurance together, or have separate insurance providers (Though it's basically always cheaper to combine them with one provider - some areas may also have laws forcing you to have one provider only - unsure about that).

Insurance prices vary wildly per region - even in Canada and the US. A small town with little to no crime will have cheap rates, compared to a slum in LA. The type of vehicle, it's cost, and how frequently it's stolen are also factors.

That's why sometimes a high performance older car that isn't actually worth that much (Compared to say, an actual sports car) can have cheaper insurance compared to something like a Honda Civic, since Civic's are so common that they're one of the number one cars stolen.

If you're an experienced driver (Been driving for 10-30 years) with no accidents, and you've been constantly insured, then your rates are going to be dirt cheap compared to a new driver.

Both driver and vehicles are insured over here as well; with the same factors you described above. £200 per month is insane though.

Makes sense. Trust me, it'll go down.

It would also be much cheaper if your parents insured the car, and put you on as an occasional driver.

That's what I did when I had my '06 Subaru Legacy. Coverage for myself and the car was about $100 per month for that car. Although at this point I have been driving for almost 9 years without any "at fault" claims nor any moving violations. Which is a big reason why my rates are so low for 2 cars.

Oh right I must have heard wrong then, it's probably so highly priced because our roads are one of (if not THE) the most congested countries in the world! So there's bound to be more accidents

Go find a used, beat-up old Civic, Corrola or Escort. Perhaps even a hatchback version. I have a beat-up little civic, that my dad is loaning me while I'm still hanging around, but I found a 2002 Mazda Protege for $500 that only needs an oil change and a valve cover gasket replacement to pass its state inspection. Throw a small turbo in there and I'd have a fast, cheap, reliable car that I could mess around with to my heart's content. The insurance will likely cost you more than the entire car.

Your first car wants to be cheap, reliable and able to take the mistakes you make driving it. Not a porsche. The thought of a porsche should never have even crossed your mind, that's completely insane.

Turbocharging a naturally aspirated car (especially an older one) definitely removes the "reliable" factor. Things will break. Engine needs rebuilding (especially with a protege) to make it reliable, but then you remove cheap. Can only have 2 out of the 3. There was a reason why the turbocharged Mazdaspeed Protege only made 160 bhp in 2003.
