Rainbow screen lines and no display output.

Onboard video. Its an i5 cpu thats around 3 years old running an Asus motherboad. As per the title, the screen would go off and display coloured lines, and now its progressed to no display output. 

 

Its not my system, but the person asked me for help. considering its running onboard video and no GPU i'm not exactly sure how to address this.

 

It could be the screen, but I'd be a bit surprised as the screen 'asus' splash logo still shows fine apparently. Could be the ram, but its run since new perfectly fine.

 

I know for a fact it has a shitty Thermaltake PSU so thats my first suspect. I don't actually have access to the system today, just looking for ideas. I may take an old GPU I have laying around and put that into it and see if it works.
