i5 4690k compatible with MSI 970A-G46?

My friend wants to know if this will work because his buddy's dad is gifting it to him for free. He wants to know if this will be compatible.

z97 boards are quite cheap though so being gifted a 4690k is not bad at all

You can put the CPU in that board and it'll work fine but you need a Z97 board to beable to overclock.
