Access point solution

Dear All

I would like to ask you for a recommendation on wich AP to buy. I already own a AC 1750 Archer TP Link router and I would like to pair it up with another AP in my flat, because i cant get enough signal to the living room. (i live i a socialist concrete building #bestforwifi :-D). I hate extenders, because it caused signal drop and the handoff was awfull. Money is not a huge deal as long as its under 500$.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

I would suggest you look at Ubiquiti's line of AC AP's  - they work great for the value. Just make sure they have the same wireless settings as your router and you should be good to go.

Powerline adaptors and a switch for wired.. powerline adaptors and an AP for wireless.

powerline adaptors  http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00X59GJGC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

switch  http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01132G822?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

AP  depends on whether you want a simple solution such as this  http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00V1QT6SY?keywords=wireless%20access%20point&qid=1458493489&ref_=sr_1_7&sr=8-7

for the ceiling

or this for a desktop  http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004JV42A0?keywords=wireless%20access%20point&qid=1458493489&ref_=sr_1_8&sr=8-8

Those aren't recommendations by the way apart from the powerline adaptors, I have those and they are great.

Ok.. Well i have thankfully a wired 1Gb connection all over the place so that is covered. Well i personally despise the Powerline because round here in the Czech republic a huge percentage of people have aluminum wiring and in a very bad shape so its a no go in here. Besides it would limit my bandwidth to my NAS. But thank for the tip.. (no sarcasm)

I really like this one, i am just worried if its gonna go well with the archer.

I can get it here for round 200 bucks in this country

OK, no problem... can totally understand not wanting powerline if you have better anyway :)

One suggestion I would make is to maybe word your questions a bit better, no offense intended at all, just trying to help get to the root of the question is all, such as :-

:)

I already have gigabit connections throughout the house, I just need suggestions for an access point please

and say what level of access you want ie something like AC1750 like your router or whether the access point only needs to be N300, N600  2.4 or 5Ghz wifi   etc. I'm not complaining by the way, just trying to suggest to people to cut to the chase with what they want. People can vary so much in what they can live with/what they can afford that it gets very difficult trying to suggest things and then having to tweak the suggestions... again not singling you out, just saying that for future reference it would be really helpful

I apologise if it came off as snarky or anything. I myself have a Netgear nighthawk router that can't quite reach the furthest parts of my house, but the access point I have is only a wireless N 2.4Ghz at 150Mbps, which is all I need for that tiny part of the property that can't be reached via the router, it's only phones and tablets mostly that use it after all. The router covers (thankfully) the area that the PCs/laptops that need the wireless AC1750 to transfer files etc. Anyway, good luck with it, sorry I was unable to help you this time :)

That should do fine. I've personally gone through a few different WiFi solutions and Ubiquiti is the one I've landed on. Before that I had a couple of DLink APs (still have one) before one of them started dropping in and out. Before that I used the WiFi that was included in my Netgear router. I had a few odd issues with that particularly when moving between access points.

The Ubiquiti AP is the first one I'm actually pretty happy with. I have an AC Lite and I've noticed that it's generally more stable than any access point I've used before. I've also noticed that I don't have issues connecting to other devices on my Network via my phone anymore. Just little things like that which you just put up with. Oh, and ontop of all that the information and control it gives you is pretty cool. You can do things like limit the bandwidth of particular devices or just see which devices are the most active. They're not cheap but I think it's worth it.

At this point I'm tempted to replace my other DLink AP........

Fools think they know everything, experts know they know nothing

Thank you very much guys. I have settled for the Ubiquiti Pro AP. But thanx. I will work on my expressive skills. :-D

Having just set up a Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite and a UniFi AC Lite AP last night, make sure you have the access point and controller on the same switch. I was having problems where the controller was on a different subnet and the AP wasn't getting picked up. Setup is fairly straightforward from there. Best of luck!

Same subnet, not same switch.

You are correct. My edgerouter was putting eth0 on 192.168.2.xx and eth2 to 192.168.1.xx. So even running through the router itself there was no phoning home. I like to keep my media server on the same subnet as my hardlined desktops. Less chance that someone on wifi can poke around.
