So I currently have an R7 250 as my graphics card for my gaming PC. I wanted to get a better card that I can afford, like an R7 370, and it got me curious about Crossfire. Would those two cards be compatible? I'm not entirely sure of the answer because I keep getting inconsistent answers from just looking around.

You can crossfire different cards that are based on the same core, e.g R9 290 & R9 390.

Get something nvidia. You'll thank me later.

Misinformation, always a good way to start the day.

To OP, you can only Crossfire cards in the same core family. With the R7 250, that means the HD 7750, HD 7770, and the R7 250X.

With the R7 370, that means HD 7850, 7870, R7 265, R7 270, and 270X.

For value, unless he can save some can get an R9 280, there is no obvious choice for AMD vs nVidia. Like @Moonzy said, nVidia is great value at low end, AMD beats nVidia in mid to high end cards (280, 280X, 390), and since AMD doesn't make any legitimately high end cards, nVidia is the only choice for a monster gaming rig, but since @N00builder464 is on the low end side, I just decided to share my nVidia fanboyism.

Ehhh.... low end, people tend to be really muddled on it. Neither wins. Mid range to high end (anything from R7 265/370-R9 390X), I'd say AMD wins but it's still personal preference. Really, up until the Titan X, it's personal preference.

theres a ton of factors affecting the high end choices,

if you're playing in 1080p and wants the best card, the fury X and 980 Ti would probably be your best bet

but if you wanna game on 4k, the 980 Ti would be your obvious choice because of that 6gb vram while the fury x only has 4gb

its not cut dry and say "THIS CARD IS THE BEST E-PEEN RAISER IN THE WORLD", except for the titan

but whoever gets a titan for gaming probably have more problems with their head than their e-peen

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't AMD's highest end Radeon card only comparable to a 980, even with Crimson?

Okay, thank you all for your feedback! :D if you would, let me switch gears for a second and ask: in general, so no preference to Team AMD or Team nVidia, what would be the card with the best price to performance ratio? I'm trying to look for a card in prices from anywhere up to $200 or $250.
