Give my old 980 to school or give it to uncle?

I am in a bit of a dilemma on what to do with my 980 since i now have a 980 Ti.

My uncle said that he is building a new PC. Nothing fancy, maybe a core i5 or something. He will not be using it for gaming/ video editing so i think it will be a waste but he keeps asking

My school is running a space project :http://horizon.qmgs.walsall.sch.uk/

One of the people in the project found out i got a 980 Ti from NVIDIA and asked me if they could use the 980 for a video editing workstation/server they are building for the project

 

What should i do?

Yes i did, however NVIDIA sent me the 980 Ti and said i could keep it for folding purposes. 

So i have basically made a £150 profit already

Well it's your choice. Your uncle isn't going to benefit from a 980..

I'd probably lend it to the people doing the project and then sell it afterwards.

How did you manage to convince nvidia to let you keep the gpu just for folding? I see a lot of people doing it, yet they don't just get a $700 gpu out of the blue (or should I say green ).

Sell it, buy a GTX 970 for the school, and use the rest to buy a decent card for your uncle? Donate it to the school but ask the people at the project to chip in on a decent card for your uncle?

True, well they do some pretty sick timelapses and such of space footage. That seems like a good suggestion however the project ends in 3 months time and they need to start video editing soon

I wouldnt give it to a school if the school districts are anything like the ones we have around here. 10k in property tax a year with 90% of it going to the schools, that they seem to be wasting. Imo, I already gave them 20 980s lol

You said your uncle wouldn't be using it for gaming or editing, so I don't see any reason why he would need it.

intel integrated graphics is more than enough for him ... watching movies/youtube videos etc ... why would you need 980 for that.

 

It's like having bugatti veyron in your living room, hiden under big box. 100% useless.

 

I don't know how you mannaged to get 980 ti for free, but lucky you ^^

I personally think it's weird for the school to ask for a student (I'm assuming you're a student) to donate an item that is that expensive, but I would never give a graphics card that expensive to someone who won't use it.

I think you should lend it to the school. You said the project ended in three months so maybe you could have it back after that and then sell/give it to your uncle. If he really needs it...
