For the Gigabyte board I can not find a 100% confirmation. For the ASUS board, page 1-14 of the user manual holds a table that shows the function for each audio jack depending on the devices connected.

In 6-channel mode, light blue becomes Rear Speaker Out, lime becomes Front Speaker Out and pink becomes Bass/Center. For 8-channel audio, it actually uses the front panel connector to serve as Side Speaker Out.

Audio
  1. Realtek ALC887 codec
  2. High Definition Audio
  3. 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel
    * To configure 7.1-channel audio, you have to use an HD front panel audio module and enable the multi-channel audio feature through the audio driver.

Audio

Realtek® ALC887 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC *2
- Supports : Jack-detection, Multi-streaming, Front Panel Jack-retasking, Anti-pop Function

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/B75MPLUS/overview/

The issue is both these mobo mention support for 5.1 audio and specifically mentions if 8 channel output is required a HD audio Module is required but says nothing about 6 channels

So 3 ports for 6 channel right?

Both these motherboard got 3 ports (Green, blue,Pink MIC*)

The only thing I came up with is the mic port can be configured for audio output. Can somebody with a similar audio ports confirm the speculation I have?

The 'jack detection' mentioned in the specs is a technology where they can detect what is connected to each audio jack on the board and assign it a role accordingly. If you connect speakers and a mic, it'll be a speaker port and a mic port. If you connect 5.1 speakers, it'll be a front, rear and center/subwoofer port.

Thank you! Can't believe i missed that and the gigabyte motherboard manual doesn't mention anything about that strangely unless I missed it

What are your MB offerings?

If you don't want to mess with front panel connectors post the shop's site :P

Also for 1155, strangely enough, intel MBs usually had tons of audio ports.

Yup that is a issue!

I am so limited most don't even sell 1155 motherboard anymore and the few online sites avaible have only h61 models (No USB 3.0,SATA 3)

Feel free to post something from ebay (If it's under or around 50$)
