Hey Everyone,

I have an ASUS 2-in-1 laptop, model R554L.

The built-in webcam is one that I absolutely hate. The picture comes out small, color isn't too great, and just kind of sucks, so I've been using a USB one, carrying it around whenever I need to use the webcam. It has its benefits, but obviously is less than convenient.

Is there any way to place the existing internal webcam with a better one? I have no issue with taking it apart to get to it, I've had to do it on a past laptop to fiddle with that webcam too.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Alex

in order to have a slight chance of being able to change the webcam you will void all warranty so if something goes wrong asus wont even bother to look into your case.

another risk is whether an upgraded webcam unit will fit where the original one is.

so, my recommendation is to get a smaller portable webcam or if you have nothing to loose try pry it open and see what can be done.

I suck a typing, preparw for typos.

another random person,

I do know that there are compatibility issues with other internal webcams. Do you know any work-arounds for that?

there is no way

no one is doing it, there are no workarounds, no drivers, you will struggle to find one that fits, they all use proprietary connectors.

just no

unfortunately, there isnt any workaround for internal incompatibilities

but you can try this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-USB-5M-Retractable-Clip-WebCam-Web-Camera-Laptop-BE-/121834324432?hash=item1c5de441d0:g:v1kAAOSwsB9WBReI its compact (just a recommendation)

  • 4 years later...

I have to disagree with the responses above.  I have a HP 17 ca series laptop and that laptop came with multiple webcam options. I had the VGA camera when i bought the machine and I swapped it with the HD webcam option which only cost 15 euro. It is possible that there are multiple versions of webcams for other laptops so simply saying no to this user is wrong.
