If you are running any OCs that can cause stability issues. Go back to stock with all settings and try again.

If that´s not helping remove one RAM DIMM and run memtest. And then, if no errors shown test the other DIMM. If the system memory is fine, then there´s a chance, that you could have a loose cable connections or faulty cable or your PSU is damaged. Then you´d hav to RMA it.

It could be reaching its thermal  limits, and shutting off to not kill its self. Try remounting the CPU heatsink/fan.

My oc has been fine for about 2 months never had an issue with it. Temps etc are stable.

I've just had the psu back under warranty due to it dieing on me last month surely another unit can't be faulty.

I've just checked all cables and they are as I left them :(

It's driving me nuts

Well if you know the cables are fine and the system´s OC is stable that´s a good thing because the list of possibilities gets shorter.

I´d check out the RAM anyhow with memtest and trying to run just in single channel mode at the time. And as crazy as it sounds your faulty PSU could have damaged something or it could be also a bad PSU.

Well, I've had this exact problem twice now with two of my older builds.

One of my older builds also randomly restarted on its own, turned out the psu was faulty, not delivering power correctly.

With the other build I also had it running on overclocked settings for weeks without problems until it started to reboot on its own frequently. Turned out for some reason my overclocks weren't stable anymore, despite working for weeks. Perhaps hefty overclocks can sometimes slightly degrade your chip over time, causing it to become less tolerant to higher clockspeeds?

I've restarted with a single stick of ram and will test it. I have another psu that I can try so I'd nothing else works I'll try that and see what happens.

If your restarts are like someones killed the power, I'd say it is 99% probable that the PSU is the problem. If it's blue screening before that it could be a video driver issue.. I'd double check the video drivers just to be sure.

It's not about the temps, instability doesn't necessarily corelate to high temps. But 4,4GHz shouldn't be a problem anyway. But what about your graphics card's overclocks?

I would definitely check the psu as well, just because it's a "fresh" unit doesn't mean it can't be faulty already.

Well I've installed my spare psu just a waiting game now. Can a 80+ bronze psu 500w handle my over clock to 4.4ghz?

If only your cpu is overclocked, it should be plenty.

Even with an overclocked 960 it should still be fine.

Well all looking good at the minute just dialled the oc back to 4.2ghz and adaptive voltage ON.

Seems stable and no restarts as of yet.

Looking like another psu faulty.... serves me right for buying the stores own branded psu instead of a reputable brand :(

at this point I would maybe save some time and trouble, cut your losses and just ask for a refund... spend a bit more on getting an EVGA or corsair, if you can afford it get the EVGA G2 model, at least it should then last you into another PC build or 2 then.

some possible solutions:

1. start fishing - there might be some setting somewhere that You don't know you've configured, but is there anyway that's the cause of the random restarting. I would recommend looking in the sleep timer settings.

2. If you don't have antivirus, I would suggest purchasing it. Some malware needs to restart the computer to do whatever it needs to do, but if you have the pre-installed firewall set up in Windows, that may be preventing it from doing whatever it does. You may need antivirus to destroy it, so it can't keep trying to restart your computer.

3. Watch your CPU usage, and pull up your background tasks. This may be using so much of your CPU, that it is forcing your computer to restart and get everything back together. Hopefully, you can just go into settings and un-check all the programs that are set to "run at start up". This could clear you CPU usage. However, if that's not the problem it could be a faulty CPU or memory stick. In that case, sadly you may have to buy a new CPU or memory set altogether.

Damn, that sucks.. but at least you know why it was playing up. Are you getting a straight swap again or are you going to ask for refund as you could possibly get another faulty unit, could have even been a faulty batch they got in :(

It's their own brand psu that's meant to be 80+ gold and have some fancy specs so I'm gonna go for a refund and pay the extra for the evga g2 650w 80plus gold
