260x crossfire

lonewolf5460

I have a temp build until zen and polaris drops check my profile for specs. I got a 260x just to scrape by but I see another one on Craigslist for 60 and I picked up my current one for 61 off ebay. I know they go for a 100 used so its tempting me, plus its a matching card an xfx double dispensation. My reasoning being that from some reviews I read that at 1080p two 260x match a r9 280 so for 120 that is pretty killer I think, plus if I can squeeze a heavy overclock it should be even better. The only game I plan to play is battlefield 4 so I just want to max it out and lock the frame rate at 60. What are your guys thoughts for 120 I could of gotten a r9 270x used but to be at 280 possible 280x levels with an overclock for 120. I have a crossfire certified 600w modular coolermaster rs that i picked up brand new on ebay for 29 with shipping killer deal right, so I am figuring I am good on that front.

Well, honestly I would just sell the card. Unless you are tight on money and $60 is all you got then go for it. Always better for single more powerful card then 2 weaker card.

GPU: XFX RX 7900 XTX

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D

As the others have mentioned, it is best to sell your card, and buy a single more powerful card, than to get another R7-260X to run in Crossfire.

If you could really sell for existing R9-260X for ~$100, then you would have about $150~$160.

You may have to pitch in an extra $10~$20, but that should at least get you a used HD 7970 (AKA R9-280X) or HD 7950 (AKA R9-280). They can EASILY double the performance on a R7-260X.

If you look around a bit, you could snag a R9-290(X) for around $200.

That will pretty much destroy anything you can buy new for $200.

The 260x is great for light gaming, but it is a known fact that when possible go for the best single graphics card possible. I would suggest selling the 260x you have and using that money and the 60 or so dollars you are prepared to spend to buy a r9 380 or a gtx 950/960. Having 2 old amd cards is asking for temps and heat, so jsut go with a newer card.

If you can show me where to get a 380 for 120 even 150 ill buy that in a heart beat. Its not really the money but anything that is spent on this system that is going to my mom when zen and polaris comes out will take away from that build. Obviously I will pull the gpus  and my 3 ssds in raid 0 and put in a r5 230 I have in before giving it to her. But based off the benchmarks and the fact that battlefield works well with crossfire and has mantle support I figure it would make some sense. Ill consider selling the 260x and getting a 270 or 270x as that is the only card I see in the 120 range on ebay. As long as the 260x crossfire can play battlefield at 60fps locked then I am happy and according to benchmarks a single one can pull 40 fps so 2 should be able to handle 60 right?

Look here the 260x crossfire on battlefield 4 at 1680x1050 with a min of 76 and a average 119 and at 1920x1200 which is close to my 1080p screen averages 100 and a min of 61 on ultra. It beats out a 270x by a good margin too and slightly beats a 280 at 1920x1200 screen. Isnt a 280 basically a 380?

A R9-280 uses a cut down version of the 'Tahiti XT2' GPU core found in the R9-280X / HD 7970.

The R9-380 uses the 'Tonga' core design...which was from the R9-285. The R9-380X uses a full 'Tonga' chip.

The R9-270X = HD 7870...which is quite a bit lower in performance compared to a R9-280X = 7970.

from the looks on that page, it seems that you will be able to run BF4 at 1080p without any problems on high FPS.

Even on 1440p it seems to be running with average 60 fps at ultra.

I think it might be worth it in your case :)

R9 390 nitro here overclocked to 1150/1650 and it's running at 70-75°C on 100% load with valley benchmark running. Fan speed at 55%. Doesn't seems to be that hot. My R9 270X Direct CU II TOP had same temperatures if not even higher.

They run cool, but consume more power so output more heat, which becomes a problem with CrossFireX or miniITX.

Cool beans its just temporary anyways i want to play around with a cf setup because when i do do my big upgrade i know I will be running a single card, is just for fun really. Do I need a crossfire bridge my card has the little spot for one but I thought amd went bridge less through the pcie bus.
