Is this a useful thing?

i hope i put this in the right category.

 

so, a little while ago i got this old computer, and it got this thing in it which i'm not sure what it is (i think a network card).

i have no idea what to do with it and no idea what it does. Does anyone know if this is a useful thing?

that connector though predates the dinosaurs, no motherboard today supports it...

 

edit: its a pci slot card thats still supported on some boards :D

if it works keep it just for an emergency but otherwise it's pretty much useless.

Yes it's a network card.

pretty sure that's just a normal pci slot

That's just PCI

yeah it's legacy but a lot of boards have them still and a lot of network cards still use that port.

And to answer your original question, yes it can be very handy to have a spare ethernet card, and yes this would be the right category.

oh and the lower ones in you picture are types of agp cards most of which are not very useful anymore, sorry just noticed it.
