I'm searching for a dual socket motherboard that will support two xeon x5470 cpus,

but haven't got much luck so far, btw long shipping times aren't a problem, so if you

guys got any ideas I would highly appreciate it.

Thank you

What do you want to use it for?

On a hunch, I'd say he's going with the 'cheap 8-core server setup' that Linus showed off a while ago as a method of getting great performance on a budget.

I would avoid that mobo since you need the proprietary psu that dell made for it since it has a 24pin connector and a 20pin connector but they are not standard pinouts.

Careful- It might not have sufficient wattage or power efficiency if you're looking to build a gaming rig with a high-end graphics card.

According to this site this board has two PCI-e 16x gen2 slots for GPU's up to 150W (so the GTX 980 Ti is not an option)

http://kamcom.com/cn-0rw203/

It seems like it was rather a workstation board rather than a server board. e.g.: it has onboard audio (no mic. jack though), better rear I/O and I believe support for both regular and ECC memory. (Check to make sure)

On the downside, it doesn't seem to have any fan headers, and you may have difficulty mounting this board in a regular pc case, if it fits at all.

Again: good luck! And keep us posted on your progress :)

You may have trouble with mounting the CPU heatsinks as well (just like Linus had in the video). This board was designed to have the heatsinks bolted directly to the case the board came with.

Like Linus said: "This is not the magic bullet that kills all your problems" :P

I was talking about the dell power supply he intends to use. In case this is news- motherboards don't have wattage or power efficiency ratings.

I built a dual x5560 build for like, $250 bucks. I would totally suggest trying to go LGA 1366 if you can. It's just a tad more modern. Then you can just order LGA 1366 server heatsinks and a good number of the motherboards have standard(ish) layouts.

SSD: PNY 240GB HDD: Toshiba 3TB 7200RPM PSU: EVGA 1000 GQ Case: NZXT S340 Display: Dell P2416D

Interface: Focusrite 18i20 Monitors: Event 20/20's Mic: Blue Bluebird DAW: Steinberg's Cubase 7.5, Adobe Audition CC

The point of an old 771 server though is that the parts are going for really cheap on ebay and such so that you can build most of a computer for about $100.

For $250 you would be better off going for an lga 2011 mobo which you can find for $100-150 and something like the e5 2670 which go for like $70.
