i am updating my old desktop, and i just came across a problem. the lightscribe dvd burner that i want to keep, uses the old 39 pin ribbon cable for data, and what i think is called a molex (4 pin) power connector. can someone tell me what the name of that 39 pin connector is, or better yet, a website that shows that kind of thing, so i can bookmark it in case i ever need this type of information again? i have looked at over 20 websites, but can not find anything old. thanks.

I would consider just getting a newer sata dvd drive they're pretty cheap now.

Hey there xwrench3,

As the guys suggested, you can look for IDE to SATA adapter so you can use your old optical drive.
If you provided us with the device's brand and model number and a photo of the connectors it would be much easier for us to help. :)

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^

well that is just my luck. i just put the computer back together so i could use it (in its original condition) while waiting for an adapter.  i found one that i believe will work on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002OEBO6E?keywords=ata%20to%20sata%20adapter&qid=1458232735&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-2

I would go with this suggestion ^^  rather than going with an adaptor if you really must keep the drive. From what I have seen though, Lightscribe discs cost a premium compared to regular DVD discs, so in the long run you will be paying way more $$  just to have the lightscribe tech compared to just writing on the disc with a marker pen. It's your choice obviously, good luck with whichever way you go :)

yep, i already looked at it. i had the same thought. but this one matches my case,

Gotcha' well good luck then. Maybe you could find a sata one on ebay that looks the same? I would avoid adapters like that if at all possible. And  not sure why but I just now got a notification for your quote from yesterday...

This should work too but I'd contact the manufacturer of the optical drive just to be sure it won't do any damage to it. Dropping an e-mail to their support should do the trick.
Post back if you go with this solution with some results in terms of compatibility and speed. :)
