Low Profile Cooler for i7 6700k

Cython
Go to solution Solved by Deli,

Very low-profile cooler isn't really ideal for overclocking, unless you don't mind high CPU temperature.

Noctua NH-L9i is a big no no for overclocking for a 4-core K CPU(don't know why people keep recommend it). 6700K will turbo to 4.2Ghz. Equals to mild overclocking to other K CPUs. Even the slightly bigger NH-L9x65 can barely keep the CPU temp under 75C with turbo on when the ambient temp is a bit on the high side.

Hi

Simple question xD

What low profile cooler should I buy for a i7 6700k (for a bit of overclocking )

I got 61mm of space.

And water-cooling is not a option do to room issues.

it might cost you some because its one of the premium products for your application

The most you could probably get would be a noctua l9. At that height everything is just a quieter stock cooler.

Got one for my dad & it arrived yesterday, so feel free to AMA.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

Water cooling as in custom loop or aio solution? Also What kind of room issues?

But for air, stock heatsink will fit, although 6700k doesn't ship with one so you'd have to buy it yourself. Also, the Noctua NH-L series coolers are very low profile.

The l9i isn't rated for its TDP. 95w compared to the 65w TDP that the L9i can handle!

Cryorig C7 fits just about anywhere.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

What was the problem ?

It sucked, basically. Only a few degrees better than the stock cooler no matter what I did.
