Are usb dac worst than optical dac

both good?

which is better at the best price range, does it matter..?

“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

Some people think one sounds better than other other. They are fools.

Reality is that the main differences are related to OS compatibiliy - e.g. correct recognition of the device for driver installation, if needed. Optical output sometimes supports a lower maximum bitrate, not that this matters.

Usually it really doesn't matter as long as whatever you can is able to connect to your device. They are practically the same otherwise!

i've never liked the idea of USB DACs, most on-board sound cards support some form of digital output already these days, and usb kinda remains one of the most "dirty" ports on a computer with lots of interference, less than ideal power delivery at times, and so on. (if you ever thought cables dont matter, with USB a decent cable can matter a lot...)

that said, usb dacs are everywhere, and optical dacs seem to be a shiny pokemon, i guess there must be a reason for that :/

Why do you need one? It does not matter if you buy usb or optical the sound will be the same.

ohm impedance has nothing to do with how hard a headphone is to drive. You cant just buy an dac you will need a amp.
