How to get numlock to stay on when starting pc

Roboslash1

Hi.

I am running windows 10 and I use a pin code to log in. However everytime I start the computer, i have to click the num lock to make it possible to use it. How can I toggle it so that it is on when i start windows? I remember before I reset it, the numlock was on from day one, without having me to change it.

Thanks,

Felix

on my laptop it's kinda non-issue because I press NumLock and the PIN window pops, then I use the numpad keys to enter it

Check your BIOS. There's usually an 'Enable Num-Lock on Boot' option somewhere in there.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think W10 overrides it when it's set to PIN login

the BIOS setting should be Boot up Num Lock [enabled] / [disabled]

there are two methods of forcing NumLock ON

  1. let W10 go to login screen, press numlock and then press the power button on the PC/laptop/watever; at the next boot NumLock should be on
  2. registry edit: find HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard edit string value named InitialKeyboardIndicators to 80000002 and reboot
