Okay, so I've got a rather poor situation here. I recently bought this motherboard. Not so recently that I can return it, though. It has no built-in wifi, so I started using a powerline adapter. It was...bad. It would cut out randomly at times, and the speeds were worse than my wifi. So I returned that and got a PCIe wifi card. The speeds are better, but it's still a bit inconsistent and can't handle live streaming like my old motherboard with wifi could. Both were about $40 and from TP-Link. I've heard negative things about them, so is it probably that I need a better product from a better manufacturer? Could it be that this motherboard is causing the spikes, a.k.a. just inherently bad? Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you have drivers installed for the wifi card?

Yep, it came with a disk with the drivers and a program, both of which I installed.

Try going to their website and installing new ones. The ones that come on disks are usually outdated.

Would outdated drivers really make it work so poorly though?

There could be a bug somewhere in the software that was fixed in a newer version.

Okay, I downloaded and installed the newest driver from http://www.tp-link.us/download/TL-WDN4800.html#Driver

. Could the problem be that it doesn't seem to support Windows 10, which I'm using?

Edit: Testing wether it's improved right now, but I think I may have to restart.

Could be. Try installing the driver in compatibility mode.

How would I go about doing that? Do I need to uninstall first? I'm somewhat of a noob at this

Go to the driver file. Right click it then find "troubleshoot compatibility" and follow the steps.

Okay, that's what I originally thought, but nothing in there will bring up a "troubleshoot compatibility" option, just general file options (copy paste etc.). Am I doing something wrong? Can post a screenshot of the zip folder if you want.

You have to extract the zip file first.

Well it's not always a convenient solution. A cable ran throughout the house, potentially up some stairs or around a door, can be a bit of a challenge to do in a neat fashion. If the op is renting, drilling holes or running cables through the walls may be off limits.

I personally use wifi for my desktop since it's a much easier solution than running a wire 100 or so feet through my house, which I rent.

Yep, I essentially rent because I am 16 and live with parents. They frown upon me running a cable through basically the whole house, not to mention holes in the ceiling.
