Trying to figure out what this cable is used for

I think cameras, old recording units and tvs etc still use them.. Media hardware. Still used.

You could use it as audio out on a media PC.

I use one of these which will work exactly the same.

Some of the old camcorders used to use those for outputting directly to a TV, it's not really a commonly use connector nowadays.

Old Camcorders, used for adapting the AV output to analog audio/video.

Depends on how the wiring is done. Maybe you could use it as aux (white, red) to 3.5mm.

Some old iPods(and I believe iPhones too) use the headphone jack as a video out, although the pinout might be different from this cable.

yes, thats how you would hook a modern phone to an older stereo.
