Hey guys,

 

I am pretty new to overclocking so I was wondering how much extra wattage does the overclocking process require from my power supply? For example would an EVGA 500W handle overclocking of an i5-4690K and an R9-390 (MSI edition)?

that build will draw approx 400W overclocked

so yeah your PSU is fine

Is that the EVGA 500W W1 series? (just 80+, not bronze or gold). If so, I wouldn't advise overclocking on it. The W1 series are cheap HEC units and are generally pretty bad.

None of the EVGA 500W units should be paired with a 390. 500W is enough but I would get something made a bit better, including things from EVGA like the GS/B2/GQ/G2
