I am currently using a Wireless USB Adapter for my gaming purposes. After using it for a month or so I have come to the conclusion it is simply too slow.

I am unable to run an Ethernet cable from my router to my PC and was curious about the viability of a Powerline Connection and If it is significantly faster.

The one I am looking at here

Is this specific one compatible with cat 5 and up.. ?

I'm very lost when it comes to networking.

Is the wifi in the area too slow, or is it the USB adapter (i.e. do other wifi devices work well in the room)? Because I've had LITERALLY this exact same scenario. I purchased the exact same powerline you're looking at. It worked okay-ish, but randomly cut out sometimes and was general a bit janky and inconsistent. If the wifi in the room is adequate, I would invest in one of these, which will work much better than USB and which you can find at any local tech shop most likely. I've been using one for a few weeks and it has worked way better than the powerline. If wifi overall in the room is just bad, I would invest in a higher end powerline than the one you linked to make sure it's good quality, unlike that one.

1: stay away from "toiletpaper-link" IMO, i have had such a bad time with there shit and i personaly really dislike them, bad drivers that are only semi compatible with windows 10, bad connectivity, bad speed and not cheap, just dont ok?

2: powerline stuff is almost as good as an ethernet cable so id say go for it, just make sure you are on the same net as were you plugg in the router, the reson i cant do it is that the second floor has its own grid connection and net  and the router is on the first floor so just make sure thats not the case for you, other then that it should be fine :)

also wifi is pretty shit so this will be a pretty nice upgrade probably :D

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I decided to go with the Netgear equivalent. And so far. It has made leaps and bounds compared to my wireless. Thanks for the information. Thank God for Staples! :D
