Current Build

  • AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
  • Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard
  • Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
  • Zotac GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Video Card
  • EVGA 500W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply

This is my current build and I am curious about upgrading my GPU cause I am not getting desired performance for the games I want to play. I am wanting to Upgrade to an MSI Radeon R9 390 - 1.06 GHz Core - 8GB GDDR 5 - PCI Express 3.0 x16. Is there any major bottleneck to my system? More specifically does my Motherboard pose a threat of bottlenecking this GPUs performance? I have done research and don't think it will but I just would like some outside help. Thanks for the help.

If you up to a 390 yes your CPU will probably botteleneck in most games.

Motherboards almost NEVER bottleneck any part of your system unless your doing liquid nitrogen cooling.

An FX-6300 will bottleneck an R9 390 in CPU bound games, I would still get the card though and upgrade later.

no, a 750 ti will not be bottlenecked by a AMD 6300.

but there might be a small Bottleneck with 390 so I would recommend upgrading your cpu if you get a 390 or a 970.

He's asking if it will bottleneck a 390 because he's thinking of upgrading.

It depends if the game you want to play is GPU or CPU-bound. In most cases, it's very reliant on the GPU and unless you have an AMD card and you have all the PhysX effects on the CPU, you should be ok

An R9 390, because of its raw power, a 6300 will limit it by a certain amount. I recommend going with one of AMD's better CPUs like the 8320. An 8320e might be fine too if you are brave enough to overclock up to 4ghz

GTX 1070 - Ryzen 5 3600x - Corsair H100i V2 - 32GB DDR4 3200

Thanks everyone for the speedy replies. I am going to buy it and upgrade my cpu over the summer to an fx 8350. I know I might have to upgrade my power supply cause I used a calculator and I come in around a high of 482 W. I have a 500 W mainly cause my pc build was cheap and did not need a super amount of power. I am thinking about the EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G1 80+ Gold, 650 W, is that a good choice as if I was to upgrade to the fx 8350 my power would not jump tremendously from the fx 6300 (I did calculate it just to be sure). Thanks again for the help guys!
