It will be used for gaming mostly, need to be able to hear everything in games footsteps etc. I am not looking into getting steelseries or plantronics.

If you want accurate sound reproduction, get separate headphones and mic. I'll recommend an Audiotechnica ATH-AD500 and a Zalman Clip-on

I would rather get an all in one which i would prefer, i was thinking about AudioTechnica 700x but i will need to buy sound card. I plan on upgrading to audio technica next year with asus sound card. But atm i just need a all in one gaming headset.

If you just need a headset to tide you over, then get something cheap. :)

Why do you need a soundcard for an Audiotechnica headphone?

Which Sennheisers do you recommened?

I'll have to bug my girlfriend. For the life of me I can't remember which $40 set she went with, but she likes them. In the meantime, I am looking around at headphones. Modmic seems sold out currently, but that's like 32usd I think. So 30+ for mic and 70 for headphones.

You don't need a sound card, it would probably make them sound worse.

You can drive the 700x from onboard, if you want more, pick up a fiio product or o2 amp.

NO there is not, sound cards are terrible. For the money you can get an equally good headphone amp that will actually sound good.

No.

None of them, pick up one of these two products.

http://www.amazon.com/Fiio-E10-USB-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B005VO7LG6

http://www.mayflowerelectronics.com/standard-objective2-amplifier.html

The latter is better sounding, but more expensive.

OP said his budget for a headset was $100, but then said he was planning to later get a soundcard and nicer headphones. Mr. Mayflower was simply recommending a couple of products that'd be better than a soundcard for this latter venture which OP never specified a budget for.

Please keep things positive. ^_^
