Upgrade sata speed on old motherboard

Oh so If I did get an PCIe sata 3.0 card I know it would not go sata 3 speed but close as is PCIe gen 2 500MBs

On a 1x slot yes.

You might be able to find a card larger than 1x thoough (maybe a 4x) that could then run in your 16x slot.

Oh I would but the 16x is being used for graphics card.

Yeah then you are capped at 500mbps. Remember that you'll get less than that  due to overhead as well. 400mbps might be closer to what you end up with.

EDIT: Oh if you are pcie 1.1 then RIP.

Which lane would I use then. PCIe or PCI.

I mean as a sata 3 card which is PCIe 1 slot  but that fits into a PCI which is 2.2 slot. So then it can go faster.

Oh okay thought it was. Thanks though. Can I not get an PCIe to a PCI as my PCI is 2.2.

not the same thing

PCI has a lower bandwidth than PCIe; even if that PCIe is gen 1.x

Oh I though PCI 2.2 is faster than PCIe. Thanks for informing me.
