Hey guys, I'm planning my new rig currently,

I want something fancy for my storage solution, I watched a couple videos about M.2 and I think the snappiness and response time is very interesting.

I'm browsing "pcpartpicker" and google but I really don't know what kind of motherboard I should pick. The market is moving really fast right now with Z170 and m.2 and all that new stuff and I don't want an outdated motherboard.

Those are the ssds I will get https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mzv5p512bw

I'm really looking for raid 0 m.2 installation  (2 ssd, I don't plan on 3 since the gain is so small)

I don't have any other specific needs,  only 1 video card, I don't need wifi...  usb 3.1 is great but definitely not mandatory.

If you guys could suggest some up-to-date motherboard with good BIOS that would help a lot!  I don't have price restriction either, everything from 100 bucks to 500 is fine

What budget, and what are you using your PC for? Also what's your display set up?

PCI-e SSDs are generally a waste of money, and RAID 0 is a terrible idea for system stability

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Everything is sponsored so budget is N/A, this PC is for gaming, display set up is triple 144hz 1920*1080 BenQ XL2420

I'm not looking for the best possible value, only performance, I'm really trying to cut those milliseconds here,  this is not the family computer.

I heard all kinds of story about BIOS problem with m.2 raid0,  since it's pretty exotic people don't give a lot of feedback about this specific feature on pcpartpicker or amazon, that's why I came here, to get insight from experienced users

Well if there's no budget, then why are you only getting a single GPU? and what was the plan for the CPU? If you must do RAID 0, then get a hardware RAID controller at least

What you think of this build?  http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/mVdBNG

I already had a 980ti GPU shipped to me.

Still a waste of money, but you should be going X99 with a 5930K so you have 40 pci-e lanes

is it a huge drop in performance?

It would eliminate any chance for a bottleneck mostly, and the CPU would have more cores/threads.

Maybe raid zero for as primary and budget in a nas for nightly backup or a few had drives or big SSD for raid 1 backup

also make sure the motherboard actually supports a m.2 drive for your os, because I know some don't like it.

This is already my current setup in the house, I don't keep important stuff on my current raid 0 ssds, and I don't plan on doing so for my m.2 raid0 either. I have old school HDD in the basement to save my personal files.

isn't z170 chip the main reason we can raid0 m.2? I thought a lot of people was excited about z170 because of m.2 raid capabilities.

I'd imagine the higher end platform isn't going to have any issues, but again, no one is actually doing this lol, like you could get 2TBs of standard SATA SSD storage instead which makes a lot more sense.

You can see on the left side, an idea of raid0 m.2,  on the right side is my current raid0 ssd setup. You telling me "no one"  no enthusiast is even interested by a 6 times increase in write speed? Unless I misunderstood something, the speed is unreal compared to my current setup

It's like going from mach 1 to mach 3, it's pretty much already fast enough, it's not like going from hard drives to SSDs.
