seems pretty good imo. I would just change the 970 to an R9 390.

It's probably better to get a 240 GB for way cheaper to boot your OS off of and then get a WD Blue for $50 as a mass storage device. If you're getting an unlocked CPU, you want to get a Z170 board so you can OC. Is the DVD drive super necessary? Could save $20 without it.

Also, what's your budget? If you're editing videos, it'll probably end up better getting a locked i7 than an unlocked i5. Especially since overclocking is by no means a requirement.

The NEX PSU's are not the best in quality....I learned that the hard way. Maybe opt for a higher quality PSU. Refer to this thread, it does a great job breaking down all the most popular PSU's,

RIG: CPU: i5 6600k @4.8GHz 1.34v  CPU Cooler: H100i  Motherboard: Asus Z170-AR  RAM: Corsair Vengence LPX 2400 (2x8GB)

HDD: Seagate Baracuda 2TB  SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 500GB/PNY 240GB  GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970  PSU: EVGA G2 650W

lol, why did you select an aftermarket cooler and a Z97 board with a locked CPU? Also, since he's looking to edit, it's overall a better choice to get something with DDR4 support.

Cause i saved money from changing from a unlocked...

and why not, who wants a ugly ass intel stock cpu fan

also the i7's extra threads will suffice against ddr4....

i7-6700 is better for editing

Motherboard is fine, go for an H170-GAMING 4 if you have slightly more money to spare.

Memory is fine.

SSD and HDD for a lesser price - no need to use the SSD for anything other than booting your OS and a few specific things.

GPU is better than a GTX 970. You can switch back if you need the CUDA.

Case is a newer version of the R4 and a bit better.

PSU is definitely a lot better. It's not as cheap, but worth it.

Optical drive? Get rid of it and save the $20 if you don't need it. Otherwise, cool.

Heh, there you go, opting for worse performance by getting unnecessary parts. Take a look at the build I listed. Cheaper than yours, and it'll definitely provide better performance still.

I know this is your first build, but it is what I did for my first build. You could get the Xeon E5 2670. It has 8 cores and 16 threads and runs at 2.6GHz with a turbo of 3.3. However you can get about a .2GHz overclock out of it. The best part is they are about 70US on Ebay right now. Probaly the best deal on a CPU there is right now. I use an R9 390 with mine and it performs great. However the LGA 2011 boards are in high demand so they will cost between 150-200US. Still I got the CPU, 16GB RAM, and the MoBo for exactly 300 and it is AMAZING at video editing. It got a score of 1028 on Cinabench which is really good. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.
